DIY Cleaning Products: Citrus Vinegar
Making citrus vinegar will make you a better person (not really). But, it will make an excellent base for DIY cleaning products!!! Citrus fruit peels contain a natural solvent, Limonene. It is used in a wide range of products like cosmetics, flavorings, solvents, paint strippers, and air fresheners. For cleaning product purposes, you can make your own at home with leftover citrus peels and white vinegar. Use whatever you have–lemons, limes, oranges, tangerines, etc.
Use a ratio of 1 peel to 1 cup vinegar. Put it in a jar with a lid and let it sit for 2 weeks. Then, just pour it through a strainer and it’s ready to use. I like to use it for DIY Produce Wash and a bathroom cleaner–Orange You Awesome Sauce (recipe pending), which is just a beefed up version of my regular Awesome Sauce–just swap regular vinegar for this Citrus Vinegar.
THE RECIPE: Citrus Vinegar
Makes 1 cup. Double, triple, or quadruple recipe as desired. :)
1 citrus peel
1 cup white vinegar
1. Place citrus peel(s) and vinegar in a jar, seal, and let it sit for 2 weeks.
2. Strain to remove peels and your new citrus vinegar base is ready to use however you choose. I’m a poet and didn’t know it. (sorry)
